Tour a selection of unglazed containers offered.
Most clients ordering a commissioned container find it helpful to review the available shapes and textures offered in unglazed work. Once a style and texture are identified, please email with the image number(s), along with the needed dimensions. The image numbers can be found by clicking on the image to enlarge it. The number will be in the lower left-hand corner below the image.
Containers can be created up to 24″ wide. An estimate will be forwarded to you once the design has been confirmed. For a ballpark fee please see the price list.
Ovals, rounds, rectangles, moon pots, and freeform
The unglazed containers are created using rugged textured reddish and dark brown/black clays, or a combination of both. Oval and round pots can be created up to 24″ wide.
Ripped containers
This series is wonderful for collected conifers and can be created in any size up to 24″ wide. This “ripped” series can be made out of reddish clay, a dark brown/black clay (as shown in the last image), and in a crackled white slip over either clay. This style is also great for kusamonos.
Kurinuki containers
Kurinuki is a Japanese term referring to the hand-building technique of starting with a solid block of clay and hollowing it out to create an interior. It is an ancient technique that lends itself to unglazed bonsai containers. This style is also great for kusamonos.
