I do not participate much in the collection of yamadori. I have gotten a permit to collect a few roadside seedlings that have been mowed down by a snowplow enough times to make them interesting, but I will continue to let the experts take the huge responsibility of collecting the 100+ year old specimens. I do however, enjoy discovering these majestic ancient trees when hiking in the eastern Sierras.
This glaze reminds me of the old mining relics that are spread across the eastern Sierras and are found half buried near so many trees. The glaze, while modern, offers a wonderful organic quality. This glaze is used mostly on on accent, mame and kusamono pieces.
